Do not buy based only on:

  • maximum-load numbers;
  • extreme tensile-strength claims;
  • how many seconds the sleeve spins;
  • competition branding.

A barbell is part of a larger system.

You also need:

plates → collars → appropriate flooring → a safe rack when squatting or benching

and, most importantly, a sensible progression plan.

A good bar should remain useful as you move from:
